About Nielsen Racing
Founded by David ‘Sven’ Thompson, who started off in Formula Palmer Audi and then onto the Radical championship, where he took the role of Team Manager for eight years. During the final three seasons he was also working with Greaves Motorsport as a lead engineer on their LMP2 programme.
Next was Mark’s Electrical Racing based in Coalville in the UK, where from 2011 he ran a Radical for Stuart Moseley – building a long-term relationship that still exists to this day – as Team Manager for Nielsen Racing.
It started as one car, one truck and the team won the title European Masters championship outright. This brought in Tony Wells, Phil Keen and James Littlejohn, the former has now been with the team for twelve years and the team grew to ten cars over the coming seasons, claimed multiple Sunoco challenges, and paved the way for the ongoing partnership with Nielsen Chemicals from the end of 2014.
Now competing as Nielsen Racing, the long-term partnerships continued and in 2017 the team stepped up to LMP3 competition in the Le Mans Cup as well as the Henderson Cup in the UK, title success duly followed in the latter. Five years on and the team continues to grow with their first full-season LMP2 entry in Asian Le Mans and three entries in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
